With
the economy taking a downward turn raising money by asking for
donations may seem harder than ever. However, there is a
way to get
people to donate generously to your organization.
The answer is to let them have some fun in the process by dunking
someone in a dunk tank.
The
dunking tank fund raiser
has been around for years, but has
recently become more popular than ever, raising thousands (in some
cases tens of thousands) of dollars for non-profit organizations
each year.
As
owner of Twister Display, I have sold hundreds of dunk tanks to
organizations, such as:
-
Fire
& Police Departments
-
Schools and Churches
-
Lions Clubs, Kiwanis Clubs, Jaycees
-
4H
Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts
-
Little League Baseball & Football Groups
-
Salvation Army
-
Breast Cancer Awareness, AIDS Awareness, Homeless Charities
-
PTA,
Music Boosters, Sports Boosters
Revenue for an average fundraising event may
average from several hundred to
several thousand dollars.
How Do I Organize a
Dunk Tank Fund Raising Event?
It
will take some effort to sell the fund raising event. You will
need some volunteers to organize all aspects of the event.
A
good hearted “Dunkee” always helps. It could be the police chief,
mayor, pastor, umpire, school principal or some other person people
would love to see get dunked.
It
will take volunteers to run the event. Someone will have to set up
the tank, arrange to have it filled with water, collect the money,
etc. I would suggest $5 a throw or $10 for 3 balls. You will
be surprised by the generosity people will show your organization.
People are good hearted and want to help a good cause. It also
helps if you let people know what the “good cause” is. Let
them know exactly what you're raising money for.
The
key to making money every year is to “keep the tank busy”. Do not
settle for one festival or carnival a year. During the summer plan
for at least 3 or 4 events. You may have to be creative, but it will
be worth it. Do not forget high school football games. Arrange
to split the profit with the band boosters or sports boosters.
You will always have a good crowd with a little spending money in
their pockets at the game! Another way to increase your profit is to
partner with another organization. Allow them use the tank and split
the take. They do all the work and you share the profit.
To
help you get started in your Dunk Tank fund raising effort, Twister
Display has developed a special dunk tank called the “Econo
Dunker”. This tank is the same size and has all the safety
features as our popular “Easy
Dunker”, but it costs
only $1995.
If you
are within driving distance of our factory in East Liverpool, Ohio,
you could enlist the help a volunteer and pick up the tank to save
the freight cost. If that is not possible, call us and we will get
you a freight quote.
If
your organization presently does not have the funds to purchase an “Econo
Dunker” you may want to “Pass the Hat” around town. If you need
some help in this area please call and I will send you a flyer and
letter that will help in asking business owners to donate toward the
purchase of the tank. Also, there is financing available to those
who qualify.
